Malagasy trademarks can easily be registered internationally thanks to the country's adherence to the Madrid Protocol. The Malagasy Intellectual Property Office (OMAPI) manages the process at the national level. Exporters and designers are the primary beneficiaries of the procedure: They pay only one fee and only need to submit a single application, instead of filing separate applications in different countries. The "applicant" trademark is protected by OMAPI for at least five years. In addition, the registration is valid for ten years. Trademark ownership can always be renewed.
